Two members of Sanderson Weatherall’s ESG team, Rob Walczak and Joe Slater, have successfully completed a programme of study designed by the University of Cambridge Institute of Sustainability Leadership in Sustainable Real Estate: Creating a better built environment.

David Rastrick, COO at Sanderson Weatherall commented, “At Sanderson Weatherall we understand the role we must play in supporting sustainable development across the range of our surveying practices. We have an acute awareness that decarbonisation of the Real Estate sector, community engagement and stakeholder involvement are key components in combatting the Climate Crisis.

The completion of this course demonstrates our commitment to the UN Sustainability Development Goals, specifically:

  • 4 – Ensure inclusive and quality education for all and promote lifelong learning; and
  • 9 – Build resilient infrastructure, promote sustainable industrialisation and foster innovation.”

Rob Walczak, Partner in our London Property Management team added, “The University of Cambridge course has offered us the opportunity to better understand the key sustainability challenges facing the real estate sector and how we can implement resilient measures to address these challenges and help create a better built environment.

Learning was focused on the environmental, social and governance aspects of the real estate sector and was delivered via a globally recognised team of market-leading experts. We were also able to network with fellow real estate professionals via group-based study collaborations/assessments.

We look forward to sharing this knowledge with our clients and offer insights related to key industry topics such as green building design and operation, Systems Thinking, sustainable procurement and maximising ESG impact.”

The course involved a total of eight modules covering topics such as: key themes for a sustainable real estate sector; design and procurement for sustainable built environment; sustainable operation of the built environment and developing a strategy and encouraging action.
