Nick Vincent, Associate Partner in the North East Business Rates team at Sanderson Weatherall discusses how in March, every commercial property in England will receive their 2024/25 annual business rates bill. It is critical that these bills are reviewed carefully to ensure they are accurate.

There are a raft of reliefs and exemptions available to ratepayers, some of which are automatically applied to the accounts, some are not. This may be due to an incorrect description of the property in the rating list, having to apply and prove eligibility for the relief or simply due to processing errors made by the Billing Authority.
