We are again incredibly fortunate to end this year in a strong financial position having achieved our highest ever turnover and operating profit during 2022, which we owe to the hard work and adaptability of all the talented people at SW and the ongoing support, resilience, and positivity of our clients.
Not only have we focused on the financial performance of SW during 2022, but everyone at SW has also continued to ensure we meet our environmental, social value and governance (ESG) targets during 2022.
SW Net Zero plan is now in place with a target of being Net Zero by 2035 and over the last year we have cut our CO2 emissions by 20% from our baseline data in 2020 and our tCO2 per full time equivalent employee (FTE) is 5.5 tonnes compared to the industry average of 6.3 tonnes.
In terms of Social Value, we have continued to promote inclusivity, diversity and wellbeing in the workplace and the wider community. We have worked closely with Schools, Colleges and Universities in offering professional advice, work experience and on the job training/mentoring to young people. I am delighted to report that 11 of our 2020 graduate intake passed their APC and became qualified surveyors this last year and that SW remains committed to improving the sustainability of local communities through our ongoing engagement with community organisations, SW clients and charities.
I recall this time last year I was hopeful that we were over the worst of the all the economic difficulties and personal challenges we faced, however, unfortunately that is still not the case due to the war in Ukraine and impact that has had on inflation and the cost of living. There is no doubt there will be some further difficulties ahead, but given the resilience many companies have shown to date we at SW are hopeful that many businesses will be able to adapt and innovate further over the next 12 months to weather these ongoing challenges.
