£10m asset based lending facility secured for one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries

Bladnoch Distillery, one of Scotland’s oldest single malt whisky distilleries, is targeting international growth after securing a £10m loan from HSBC UK.

Bladnoch Distillery in Wigtown, Galloway, will use the asset-based lending facility to support its growth strategy, which focuses on further penetrating existing markets and expanding distribution network to a new markets around the world.

The distillery was established in 1817 but unfortunately ceased production in 2009 before being acquired in 2015 by Australian entrepreneur David Prior who has re-invigorated the brand in the UK as well as exporting its products to Australia and beyond.

Sanderson Weatherall has developed a strong relationship with Bladnoch over the years after helping the distillery originally secure a £3million asset based lending deal to support the re-establishment of the distillery in 2015.

Having provided in depth inventory valuation, monitoring and inventory management advice to the distillery management and its lenders since its change of ownership we were delighted to once again support both HSBC UK and Bladnoch in the latest £10m funding deal.

While trading conditions have been challenging in the face of Brexit and Covid-19, we’ve managed to grow through this period and the business is now in a place where it can explore new opportunities to increase our international sales and reputation.

The work that Sanderson Weatherall completed enabled us to free up the needed capital to support our growth strategy. This was only possible due to Sanderson Weatherall’s comprehensive understanding of whisky stocks and the underpinning values, combined with a great working relationship, which we look forward to building upon in the future.
