The four mile stretch of A1 between Birtley and Coal House will be widened both Northbound and Southbound. The improvements include Junctions 65, 66 and 67, as well as the Allerdene Railway Bridge.

Permission for the work was granted on 19th January 2021 and work is due to begin in Summer 2021.
