Work begins on third phase of Sunderland Strategic Transport Corridor

Marketing / 20 May, 19

The third phase of the project is to construct a dual carriageway that connects the southern end of the Northern Spire bridge with the city centre.

It’s estimated the project will take just over two years to complete and will run from the bridge, through Pallion, underneath Queen Alexandra Bridge, into Deptford and onto the city centre.

Sanderson Weatherall have been involved with the scheme since its inception in 2006, providing Sunderland City Council with assistance in route selection, preparation of site acquisition budgets and acquisition of land and buildings affected by the routes.

Sanderson Weatherall’s compulsory purchase team has been assembling the site for this phase of the road for 2 years and today (Monday 20th May) marks a significant point in the process as the General Vesting Declaration takes effect, meaning the land transfer to the possession of Sunderland City Council today.

Esh Civils will begin work on phase 3 of the multi-million pound project that is set to improve Sunderland’s road network by the end of the month.
