Two surveyors in our Noth East teams have been promoted to Partner.
Martin Smith, Newcastle Office
Previously an associate partner, Martin’s responsibilities include taking a lead role in the Newcastle office’s building consultancy department. The team’s services embrace architecture and design, project management, cost consultancy and Martin quantity surveying, health and safety consultancy, environmental consultancy and historic building conservation.
A chartered building surveyor, Martin has in excess of 12 years’ property sector experience and a wide range of expertise in markets such as commercial, offices, industrial, public sector, retail and leisure. His specialisms include dilapidations, contract administration, design and building refurbishment, defect analysis, planned maintenance, pre-acquisition surveys and reinstatement cost assessments.
Commenting on his new status, Martin said: “I’m delighted to have contributed sufficiently to the success of Sanderson Weatherall, and specifically the building consultancy department, since joining the firm 15 months ago, to have been promoted to partner. The department posted record results in the financial year just ended and I hope that in my new role I can continue to promote this upward trend.
“I’m lucky to be able to work with some very pleasant and loyal clients and with continuing improvement in business confidence, alongside better availability of finance, we hope to exceed the 2014-15 results in the current 12 months. Indeed, we’ve already secured exciting and prominent instructions for the year ahead, which will stand us in good stead to achieve that target.”
After graduating from Northumbria University in 2002, Martin has worked in the Teesside and London commercial property markets throughout his career, returning to the North East in 2009 and says he is now delighted to be in a position to help develop Sanderson Weatherall’s presence in the region.
Matthew Clarke, Teesside Office
Matthew, previously an associate partner, covers the North-East, where his work includes valuing both commercial and residential property. He is also joint head of our Teesside office.
He provides valuations connected with secured lending, development appraisals, litigation, probate issues, accounts, and the Leasehold Reform and Landlord & Tenant Acts.
Commenting on his promotion, Mr Clarke said: “I’m delighted to have become a partner at Sanderson Weatherall, especially within 18 months of re-joining the firm’s Teesside team.
“I’m now looking forward to taking on the added responsibilities which come with being a partner and am particularly excited by the challenge of continuing the success – including growing the business – of both our Teesside valuation department and the office as a whole.
“This promotion is, I believe, a direct reflection of the hard work and success of my immediate colleagues and our wider Teesside team, as well as recognition of my own efforts and achievements within the firm.”
Commenting on the promotions, Newcastle office partner Richard Farr said: “The North East teams have just completed an excellent year’s trading. The partners regard these promotions as recognition of the technical expertise, enthusiasm and leadership they have brought to their departments and an investment in the practice’s future growth.”
