Gibson & Co. prepare for 300th anniversary

Architectural and building consultancy experts at Sanderson Weatherall have helped Tyneside law firm Gibson & Co. to prepare for its 300th anniversary with renovations to its Newcastle office.

Sanderson Weatherall created a new client meeting space and reconfigured the entrances to the firm’s offices on West Road, Newcastle.

Gibson & Co. turned to Sanderson Weatherall because of their pre-existing relationship with experienced chartered building surveyor and Associate Partner, Martin Smith, who joined the firm earlier this year.

The law firm, which specialises in litigation, property, private client and commercial work had existing meeting rooms on the first floor of its offices, but wanted to create new, improved space on the ground floor, to improve the meeting room facilities.

Neil Goldsmith, Office Manager at Gibson & Co, said: “We had worked with Martin in the past, so when we wanted to start upgrading our office environment ready for our 300th anniversary next year, we decided to engage him and Sanderson Weatherall to carry out the work. Our upstairs meeting space wasn’t sufficient due to continuing expansion and we wanted to make use of some storage space on the ground floor, to create three good sized client suites. The work Sanderson Weatherall has done has been excellent, giving our offices a fresh entrance and an overall better experience for visitors.”

Martin Smith said: “For any organisation to reach 300 years is a fantastic achievement, so we are very happy to have helped Gibson & Co. prepare its office for this huge milestone. Our architecture department designed the new client areas of the building, taking inspiration from the history of Gibson & Co. and worked closely with our building consultancy department who administered the construction, performed by building contractors M.J. Phoenix &Son Ltd., so it has been a very successful team effort.”
