Annual SW Cycle Ride 2019

Dan Pugh / 11 Jun, 19

The annual SW Charity Cycle Ride has become a real highlight in the firms calendar. Over the last 12 years, the rides have involved a total 225 SW participants cycling routes totalling 2,329 miles!  Putting it another way, the SW staff have collectively cycled over 48,298 miles on their Charity Bike Rides (that is equivalent to twice the circumference of the Earth!!) – raising over £39,400 for various worthy causes in the process!!

After last years’ fantastic London to Brussels trip, it was decided that this years’ route was to remain firmly on home soil.

For the 2019 SW Charity Ride, we have a team of 27 SW riders (which would be the biggest group yet!!) undertaking a Sustrans cycle route No.68 inspired Pennine adventure that will link three of SW’s northern offices. Starting from either SW’s Leeds or Manchester offices, Day 1 will see the team meet-up in the North Yorkshire village Gargrave, before heading off into the Yorkshire Dales National Park and their first night’s stopover in the Grassington bunk barn. On Day 2, the SW contingent will continue their journey north, riding right through the heart of the Yorkshire Dales – with c.50 hilly miles (including Tan Hill) to well and truly put the teams legs to the test! Following a nights stay at the Morritt Arms in Greta Bridge, Day 3 will see the cyclists linking up with the northern strand of the W2W cycle route, heading towards the third & final SW office visited on the trip in Newcastle city centre.

Incredibly we also have four riders that will be extending the route and adding a fourth SW office to the list. Ian Vivian, Aidan King, Nick Heap and Matt Clarke will be starting this year’s ride from our Bristol office

This year the team are delighted to support Macmillan Cancer Support, and in particular the Leslie Bessant Tribute Fund, after sadly losing colleague Les Bessant last year. An especially fitting tribute as Les used to work in the Newcastle office, the ultimate destination for the trip – any donations will be very gratefully appreciated by the team.

The 2019 SW Team comprises Stuart Avery, Simon Heather, Matthew Clarke, Lawrence Pinder, John Goodchild, Josh Peacock, Liz McLoughlin, Nick Heap, Jacques Potgieter, Christian Humphreys, Daniel Matthews, Max Rusby, Dan Pugh, Charlotte Marshall, Aidan King, Ian Vivian, Nick Vincent, Richard Farr, Marcus Acock, Chris Dent, Harry Naylor, Henry Mawhood, Lydia Martin, Gemma Watson, James Hobkirk, Tracy Elliott and Emma Graham.

Any donations would be greatly appreciated for this worthy cause. If you wish to donate, please follow this link – .
