We recently acted for a London-based investment company on the refurbishment of five derelict homes in Bishop Auckland, County Durham.
The large four-bedroom brick-built detached homes in Dene Valley View, Gurney Valley had fallen into a state of disrepair before being bought at auction last autumn by London and City Group, a real estate investment company based in the capital.
Our Teesside office was instructed by London and City Group to manage the refurbishment, including all the architectural work of the properties that had been vacant for two years.
Our building consultancy team in Teesside implemented a full refurbishment that reconfigured the interal spaces to a more modern layout as well as a full redecoration. The finished properties have open plan kitchen and dining areas, with contemporary units and appliances. Old fashioned sun-rooms and garages have been transformed into spacious lounges, and stylish touches such as spotlights added throughout the properties.
External areas were re-landscaped to include decorative paving around property perimeters, the gardens have been re-turfed, driveways re-tarmacked and repairs have been completed to the external fencing.
The phased completion of the refurbishment scheme has been so successful that all of the properties are already sold or under offer.
Simon Hobbs, a director with London and City Group, said: “We’re very happy with the scheme and quality of project Sanderson Weatherall has delivered. The firm’s interdisciplinary approach made the project run smoothly and allowed works to be completed on time and within our budget. We have been impressed with Sanderson Weatherall’s professionalism and knowledge of the various aspects of the refurbishment process”
David Fairley, partner in our Teesside office said: “This extensive project allowed us to showcase the full breadth of our expertise to an existing client. Most people associate Sanderson Weatherall with commercial ventures, but this project demonstrates our ability to apply our knowledge to the residential sector as well. Several departments worked together to deliver the successful scheme and it is fantastic to see these properties reserved so quickly.”
